Carl Bernacchi

Associate Director Carl Bernacchi is a USDA Agricultural Research Service scientist with the Global Change and Photosynthesis Research Unit and an assistant professor of crop sciences at the University of Illinois. His research focuses on understanding the impacts of atmospheric and climatic change on crop species. These analyses include global change scenarios as well as natural variations in growth conditions over a wide range of temporal scales. As the Associate Director, he will lead the phenotyping component and bridge the engineering and plant phenotyping components of this project, working closely with TERRA-MEPP’s engineers and biologists. Carl earned his master’s degree from Bradley University and went on to earn his doctorate from Illinois. He has published many peer-reviewed articles and received numerous awards, including the Melvin Calvin Award from the International Society of Photosynthesis Researchers.
